
Ted Sohier

and Voice of WQED-TV
Ted Sohier was born in the hometown of Emerson, Thoreau,
and the Alcotts — Concord, Massachusetts. After a stint in the
Army during the Vietnam War, he graduated from Temple
University in Philadelphia with a degree in communications.
A resident of western Pennsylvania since the late 1970s, Sohier
has worked as a broadcaster in radio and television in both
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
Sohier served as the first program director and on-air talent
for Pittsburgh’s first FM country station, Y108. He was also
program director for WPNT “The Point” fm and hosted
newsbreaks for WPGH-TV’s channel 53 during the 1980s.
Sohier came to WQED fm89.3 as the afternoon host in 1990.
He is also the “Voice of WQED-TV” and may be credited with
voicing nearly all of the on-air promos heard on WQED-TV today.
